TOURIST INFORMATION
The Town Hall, situated in the centre of the village, is the place where the main shops and restaurants are localized. The building is dated in the 18th century and it was the old prison of Fregenal de la Sierra. TEMPLARIO CASTLE This castle, considered one of the best preserved buildings of the area, dated from the 13th century. It has seven towers, being The Homage Tower the most important one. Other important towers are: St. Mary Tower and The Polvorin Tower. Inside the castle, you can also visit the bullring, which is an extraordinary and uncommon event. SANTA MARIA church Saint Mary’s church is the most important one of the whole village (13th century). It is next to the castle and built with the same material than the wall. Its main altarpiece is from the 18th century. LA FONTANILLA fountain This fountain, dated in the 16th century, supposes one of the most relevant monuments of Fregenal de la Sierra. On the fountain there is an image of the virgin (la virgen de la Guìa) MARIA MIGUEL fountain María Miguel fountain is one of the most popular monuments. It takes the name due to the love story between two young people, María and Miguel. SANTA ANA church The Altarpiece, dated in the 16th century, is the most important monument of this church. This work of art belongs to Roque de Balduque. SANTA CATALINA church It is dated in the 15th century. Inside, it would be interesting to see its mudejar roof, its two fonts (which are two capitals from the Roman city of Nertóbriga), and finally its two images of the 15th century, The Virgin with her Son and The Piety. There is also the Virgen de la Salud’s Altarpiece. SAN FRANCISCO monastery This building is from the 17th century. Inside, the cloister is the most important work of art.
It takes 6 kilometres long from Fregenal de la Sierra. Inside, you can find the Gothic image of La Virgen de los Remedios (which is the patron saint of our village), the room of the robes and the room of our local celebrities. PALACES AND ANCESTRAL HOMES In Santa Ana and Santa Maria district, there are very beautiful ancestral homes which have the old coat of arms of the most important families from Fregenal de la Sierra.
